Wall lights have many different uses and designs, here’s some ideas on what to put where!

When someone mentions wall lights, you’ve probably got an image in your head of the old glass shade wall lights that weren’t very bright and looked rather plain. These days, there are so many more options!

But what’s the need for them? When people have downlights and pendants, why should you bother with wall lights? Wall lights are much more than just a functional light, they can provide the perfect finishing touch to a home.

They are great for hallways to add a beautiful glow as you walk through, or on the wall of your staircase to fill up the space a bit. They look amazing in home theaters as well as having a great impact when being used to highlight artwork on the walls. You’ll also find wall lights are a great option over a vanity for people who don’t want to use pendants or even by the bed if you would prefer to keep your bedsides clear.

The key to picking the right light, is making sure it complements your space and your home. If you are going for a modern style home, using traditional wall fixtures is going to look a bit out of place. Likewise, if your home is more traditional or a classic style like French provincial, a super modern wall light may look a little funny.

Also, having the light match certain colours in your home will help tie things together. For example, if you are using wall lights on your stairs and you have a black stair rail, some black wall lights can help tie it altogether. Or if you have chrome tap fixtures in your bathroom, you can add some chrome wall lights to complement the tapware and tie everything together.
