When I say game room I don’t mean a kid’s playing room or video game room for gamers, I mean a room for the entire family to relax and have a good time. A game room can also be called a recreational room or hobby room and the most important feature of a game room is to have something for every family member. When you have so many features in a single room, you have to separate areas and the best way to highlight some area is to include the proper lighting in the room. With this guide, I want to share with you how you can install a good lighting in your game room.

Lighting for the game table area

A game room is not a game room if it doesn’t have a game table. By game table, I mean foosball

table, pool table or air hockey table even though a foosball table is the best pick because it is the smallest and it takes less space than air hockey or pool table. The most important lighting in a game room is exactly here because you need the light when you play it with your family or friends. The best position is above the game table, it can be on the ceiling or it can be one of those lightings that can mount to the table. Either way, it has to be above or you (or your opponent) will make a shadow over the field. If there is a shadow you can miss one important move or even goal.

Lighting for the video game area

Video game area is the same as the home cinema area. For that, you need a big TV, comfy couch and a low light. Here is the situation completely different than with the game tables because you can focus better on the screen when the light is low. In this area, you can have few table lamps just keep in mind that you have to place them far from TV so you won’t see a reflection on the screen during video game marathon. If you decided to watch a movie, you don’t need lights at all which makes this situation the easiest to fix.

Lighting for the kid’s area

Kid’s area or, if you don’t have children, a chill-out zone is a place where you can sit, talk with your friends or let kids play with their toys. In the kid’s area, it is important to have ceiling lamps and not table lamps. Also, keep in mind that plastic for a shade is a better choice than glass or some metal. The reason for that is because kids are playful and there will be situations when they will start throwing things in the air. When that happens, the safest lamps are the ceiling lamps and if they do hit some lamp with a toy, plastic won’t break.

As you can see, there are different lighting solutions for different game rooms or game room areas but none of them is too complicated. The things you have to think about when installing lights are safety and performance. When those two are covered, then you can think about aesthetics.
